ContextSync ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services, including the ContextSync CLI tool and web application.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address (used for authentication and communication)
  • Account creation date
  • Subscription status and payment information (processed by Creem, our payment provider)

2.2 Device Information

When you use the ContextSync CLI, we may collect:

  • Device identifier (a unique random string generated locally)
  • Device name (hostname, for your dashboard display)
  • Last active timestamp

2.3 Memory Content

For users with cloud sync enabled (Pro tier), we store your memory content on our servers. This content includes:

  • Text-based memories you choose to sync
  • Associated metadata (categories, tags, timestamps)

Important: For Free tier users, all memory content is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers.

2.4 Usage Analytics

We collect anonymous usage statistics to improve our service:

  • Number of API requests (for rate limiting)
  • Feature usage patterns
  • Error rates and performance metrics

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our services
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Sync your memories across devices (Pro tier only)
  • Send you service-related communications
  • Improve our services and develop new features
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Storage (Free Tier)

Free tier users' memory content is stored locally in SQLite databases on their own devices. We do not have access to this data.

4.2 Cloud Storage (Pro Tier)

For Pro users who enable cloud sync:

  • Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3
  • Data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption
  • We use industry-standard security practices

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Payment Processors: Creem processes payments and receives billing information
  • Email Services: Resend sends verification emails on our behalf
  • Service Providers: Cloud hosting providers that store encrypted data

We require all third parties to comply with applicable data protection laws.

6. Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA)

Depending on your location, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
  • Opt-out: Opt out of data sales (we don't sell data)

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion at any time. After account deletion:

  • Account data is deleted within 30 days
  • Cloud-synced memories are deleted within 30 days
  • Backup copies are purged within 90 days

8. Cookies

Our web application uses essential cookies for authentication. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics that track you across sites.

9. Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. International Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through our application.
